The barbarous trolls are an ancient and divided people. The Darkspears are among the most cunning and mystical of the troll tribes. Originally found in the southernmost jungles of the eastern continent, the Darkspears first encountered the orcish Horde during the second war, then later joined them in Kalimdor after Thrall helped rescue them from an entity known as the Sea Witch.
Though thus far the Darkspear trolls have served Thrall in a satisfactory manner, everyone knows that the trolls are a cruel, manipulative and selfish people by nature, and will likely only ally with Thrall so long as there is something in it for them. Trolls have a deep, instinctive distrust of anyone who is not a Darkspear, including (perhaps especially) other troll tribes. Though the Darkspears can give a surface impression of being relaxed pleasure-seekers, complete with singsong accents and comical strutting, underneath their obsequious grins and greetings of "relaaaax, mon" beats the dark heart of the Darkspear creed: a profound belief in the darkest, most alarming forms of voodoo one can imagine. Though some Darkspears pursue shamanistic nature-based magics or toy with the arcane, and some do not directly practice mystical arts at all, every Darkspear respects and even fears the awesome power of "da voodoo." Never, never, NEVER cross a Darkspear shadow-priest, if you can help it.
Available Classes: Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Shaman, Hunter
Names: Trolls do not have last names. First names are a complex syllabic code with a one-syllable "base name" with added suffixes or prefixes. The prefix "Zul" traditionally indicates one skilled in the arts of voodoo, and the suffix "Jin" traditionally indicates a male chief or elder, for example. No one knows the entirety of this code, which even varies slightly from village to village.
Hair: Varies widely in color from white and bright yellow to blue and green.
Eyes: Typically red or orange.
Skin: Darkspears' skin tends to be blue, ranging from turquoise to periwinkle.
Height/Weight: Trolls average seven feet tall, but are lean and wiry, weighing only around 200 pounds. They are lithe and acrobatic, with no excess body fat.
Age: Closer to humans than any other race in Azeroth, though slightly shorter-lived. A new adventurer will be between 17-23. 30 is "middle aged." The oldest known troll lived to be 79, but trollish life is brutal, so Darkspears count themselves lucky to see middle age.
Social Status: Traditionally, males were the unquestioned dominators, holding all positions of authority and considering females' only purpose to make more trolls. Unfortunately the Horde does not take to this kind of sexism, so the trolls have grudgingly had to allow their women into society. Trollish women have risen to the occasion almost alarmingly, and males have come to fear their vengeful voodoo.
Family: Say what, mon? Oh, I t'ink I got a son or two somewhere...
Hometown: Trolls, like gnomes, are essentially homeless. They sponge off of the orcs for the time being. Within the last few years they've built a nice little oceanside village called Sen'jin, in Durotar, but it's more of a waystation than a home. Most adult trolls fondly remember their childhoods in the jungles back East, and think of that as "home."

Generic Backstory: You are 20 years old. You were born in the jungles of Stranglethorn, a proud member of the Darkspear tribe. Constant wars between the tribes of the former Gurubashi empire had whittled your people down to near extinction, and the invading humans didn't make matters any better. When you were in your early teens, thanks to the help of an orcish warchief named Thrall, the Darkspears drove the humans from their lands, only to be captured by a tribe of murlocs not long after and offered up as sacrifices to the mysterious Sea Witch. Thrall once again rescued your people, whose warriors impressed him, and offered you sanctuary in the empire he was planning to build across the sea. Around the time you came of age at 17, your people took him up on it and sailed to the Echo Isles... only to be driven to the mainland by the traitorous witch doctor Zalazane. Now you are forced to cohabitate with the dull-witted orcs until such time as your people can find a new homeland.
