Nearly 3,000 years ago, the various human tribes united under the legendary Arathor and formed a mighty empire that spanned much of the eastern continent. However, thanks to the last few decades of war, the humans have only one significant stronghold left - the southern kingdom of Stormwind. Humans desperately long to take back mighty Lordaeron in the North from the clutches of the Undead.

Humans have the shortest lifespans and shortest history on Azeroth. They make up for this though with their great numbers, their aggressive nature, and their idealism - all qualities that have led them to become the leaders of the Alliance. Humans are a varied race, due to the large number of tribes that the Arathi Empire united under its ancient rule. However their unity is breaking down. Virtually every human living today technically answers to the authority of the child-king Anduin Wrynn and his court at Stormwind Keep, though the outlying city-states of the kingdom feel abandoned by Stormwind and have become increasingly independent. Of all the races on Azeroth, humans find the dwarves to be the closest kindred spirits, but also have a long-standing relationship with the now-rare High Elves. Human hatreds run strongest for the Undead who now control their beloved northern lands, the theiving Defias bandits, the orcs who lead the bloodthirsty Horde, and humans' ancient ancestral enemies the trolls.

Available Classes: Warrior, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Paladin

Names: Surnames are passed down through the generations and reflect a wide variety of influences, though sometimes a human will earn a heroic title that he then uses as a surname and passes down to his children. Women take their husband's surname upon marrying them. First names are usually somewhat simple, rarely exceeding three syllables. (Examples from the game)

Hair: Blond, brown, black, or red, going gray with age.

Eyes: Blue, green, brown, gray, or hazel.

Skin: Varies from pale alabaster to darkest ebony, and every shade of blushing peach, tan and brown in between.

Height/Weight: Males average 6 feet and 180 pounds. Women are noticeably smaller and slighter, with broad hips.

Age: A new adventurer will be between 17 and 27. 35 is "middle aged." The average human dies around 65 years of age, though heroes can live as long as 110.

Social Status: Humans like to make distinctions between the "nobles" (usually descended from those close to Arathor, well-educated, and possessing inherited wealth) and the "commoners" (merchants, farmers, and craftsmen of minimal education and no impressive descent). You can be a poor noble, or a wealthy commoner, but being noble is always "better" - at least, so the nobles say.

Family: Human society is mildly patriarchal, with names traced through the father's side. Marriage is both a legal and spiritual affair, and is expected of most humans at some point. Most humans have siblings, as childbearing is an important part of human life and culture. Family is important, but other priorities often supercede it, such as revenge or ambition.

Hometown: You are most likely either a refugee from Lordaeron who has been living in Stormwind for the past six years, or a child of Stormwind. You may also be from Theramore, Stromgarde, Kul Tiras, Lakeshire, Northshire, Goldshire, Darkshire, or Westfall (though research is recommended if you choose any of those!)

Sample concepts: Chivalrous protector, brooding demonologist, haughty spellcaster, compassionate idealist, inscrutable double agent, hell-bent sword-swinger, jaded noble, gee-shucks bumpkin.

Good Diamond Words: AGGRESSIVE, AMBITIOUS, BELLIGERENT, BITTER, COURAGEOUS, DETERMINED, GREEDY, HARDY, HONORABLE, IDEALISTIC, INQUISITIVE, NOBLE, TENACIOUS, VIRTUOUS

Generic Backstory: You are 18 years old. You were born in the revitalized city of Stormwind, which had only recently been taken back from the orcs, and was rebuilt bigger and better by the gifted architects and stonemasons of the city. You vaguely remember stories from your childhood about orcs escaping from prison camps up north, and about a mysterious cult and plague that was turning the northerners into undead monsters. Not until you were twelve years old did it become real to you, when refugees from Lordaeron began pouring into your city and the surrounding lands, seeking shelter with their haunted eyes and strange northern accents. Around the same time, the Third War broke out - you heard odd stories of humans teaming up with vile orcs and even Undead to drive the demons of the Burning Legion from the world. Now that you are a mature adult, you are ready to do your own part to help rid the world and your people of what seem to be innumerable problems.
