For many generations, the High Elves of Quel'thalas taught magic to their human allies and fought alongside them in war. But seven years ago the Human Prince Arthas betrayed the Alliance, ravaged Quel'thalas, and destroyed the Sunwell: the source of the High Elves' arcane power. The new elven society that formed in the aftermath renamed its members the sin'dorei, or "Blood Elves."

Under the leadership of Regent Lor'themar Theron and absentee Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, the elegant Blood Elves have been forced to confront their racial addiction to arcane energy. Without their Sunwell, the Blood Elves now manage their cravings using methods proposed by Grand Magister Rommath, most of which involve leeching mana from other living creatures. Their parasitic practices have turned their former allies against them and have forced the Blood Elves to seek support from the more pragmatic Horde. Here they have found unlikely allies in the undead Forsaken. Though the vain and sensual Blood Elves may find the Forsaken revolting, they cannot help but recognize that their fates are intertwined. The Forsaken not only are strong-willed fellow survivors of the Scourge, but also are led by the former Ranger-General of Silvermoon herself, the now-banshee Sylvanas Windrunner. Particular foes of the Blood Elves include their "cousins" in the Alliance (the Night Elves) and the mindless Blood Elf addicts known as the Wretched.

Available Classes: Paladin, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Hunter, Rogue

Names: Melodious, with a Latin or Celtic flavor. Surnames often incorporate imagery of light, fire, or day. Male names in fiction can include apostrophes (though they cannot in-game.) Examples: Elisara Sunstriker, Thalo'thas Brightsun.

Hair: Very fair, golden, red, chestnut, or black.

Eyes: Green.

Skin: Similar to the fairer range of human skin, often with a rosy glow.

Height/Weight: Human height range, though more slender.

Age: A new adventurer will be between 66 and 120. 175 is "middle aged." The average Blood Elf will die around 350 years of age, though heroes can live as long as 400.

Social Status: Quel'Thalas is a monarchy, with the accompanying social strata of nobility, commoners, servants, and so forth. The society is slightly patriarchal, though there are strong female role models, particularly among the Blood Knights.

Family: Like all patriarchies, Blood Elves have institutionalized monogamy of some kind to be sure. DP is assuming this takes the form of marriage, as it does in their fellow Light-worshiping races the humans and dwarves. Siblings seem to remain close into adulthood. Last names are passed along to all children both male and female.

Hometown: Silvermoon, which is under construction at the moment but on its way to becoming a wondrous and magical metropolis once again. The eastern half is all but rebuilt, while the western half is still largely in ruins and something of a slum other than the freshly-renovated Falconwing Square.

While his abominable armies pillaged and burned your homeland, Arthas himself (with the help of a traitor of your own people, Dar'Khan) destroyed the sacred Sunwell – an event which shattered you to your magic-addicted core. For years you were a pathetic quivering mess, cowering with fellow survivors in makeshift camps on nearby Sunstrider Isle, until the good news began to spread... thanks to Prince Kael'Thas Sunstrider, your people had discovered new ways of accessing arcane energy, Silvermoon was being rebuilt, and a shining new era was about to begin! Now you have completed your basic training in your field, and have arisen to serve your Prince and become a hero of the new golden age!
