The warrior is the only class that is well-known and understood by every race on Azeroth. It could well be said that the warrior was the very first specialty class; since the dawn of time, certain men and women have risen up as heroes of combat, specialists in weaponry and fighting techniques. It is this from ancient tradition of combat training that today's warriors descend. They are proud, and have a right to be. Warriors are most prized (and most common) among dwarves, orcs, humans, and Forsaken, though all races have warriors of their own.

Expected Role

Warriors can do whatever they like, of course, but it's nice to know what your group will be expecting! Your expected role is often referred to in military slang as the "tank," derived from the famous steam-powered dwarven siege engines that can take ridiculous amounts of punishment while blowing up enemies.

Warriors are expected to use their unique ability to grab and hold the attention of multiple enemies at once, using various shouts, roars, and other techniques that make the Warrior a walking target. If an enemy is hitting someone in your party other than you, it's your job to remedy that situation. Everyone else in your party should be there to back you up in your job of taking blows and dealing hurt. For this reason, a good Warrior is the axis around which a party revolves. The entire goal of the party is to keep the enemies riveted on you, and to keep you alive in the meantime. Your responsibility is to keep your equipment upgraded to the best you can afford, and to master various techniques of calling attention to yourself.

Equipment

Warriors, in short, need the most protective possible armor, along with weapons that do the highest possible damage. Warriors would do well to seek out equipment that magically increases Strength and Stamina. For those who wish to rely heavily on ranged combat, or who are interested in mastering defensive techniques, Agility would also be a wise choice. When shopping at the Auction House, look for items marked with the brand of the Bear (Strength and Stamina), Tiger (Strength and Agility), or Monkey (Stamina and Agility). Also look for items that magically increase the damage you deal or your ability to survive crushing blows.
